Practice Areas

We are committed to the principle of supporting indigenous communities as self-sustaining and governing nations.

White Raven Law's primary focus on indigenous' issues has led us to develop particular expertise in practice areas that protect and promote the development of strong, confident and prosperous indigenous communities, today and in the future.

Protecting Title and Rights

Indigenous lands, knowledge and cultures have long been and continue to be under attack. As stewards of indigenous lands and waters, and guardians of knowledge and culture, indigenous communities may need to use legal tools. At White Raven Law, we offer our legal expertise and knowledge to support efforts to protect the land, sea, culture and aboriginal rights and title.

Aboriginal rights and title litigation

White Raven Law has assembled and developed a team of exceptional individuals with the requisite expertise to research, prepare and sustain complex litigation and negotiations with and for indigenous peoples. In our litigation, we plan for the future and utilize leading-edge technology to build resource collections and "boxes of knowledge" that communities can draw uponnow and in the future. This joint development is a value-added outcome of the litigation.

environmental law

White Raven Law shares indigenous' commitment to stewardship of our environment. We commit our firm to providing innovative and cost-effective advocacy, planning and policy development in all aspects of the management of human use, and protection of, lands and waters. We have the skills and experience to represent indigenous peoples in a variety of legal settings and can also assemble special teams for complex challenges. We recognize that indigenous communities wish to take a leading role in managing their territories, and can provide practical advice to support those goals.

cultural heritage law

Cultural heritage is the tangible and intangible expression of indigenous peoples' cultures, such as oral traditions, art, songs, dances, traditional medicinal and ecological knowledge, language, ceremonies and practices. We bring more than 30 years of active participation in preserving and perpetuating these traditions to our legal practice in this area. We offer this unique combination of cultural knowledge and legal expertise to assist indigenous communities in protecting this rich legacy from exploitation.

Protecting the future

Indigenous governments face the challenge of planning for the future while simultaneously protecting their rights. By keeping the future in mind while negotiating in the present, indigenous peoples are well equipped to meet this challenge. White Raven Law offers indigenous peoples the legal tools that can help protect that future today.

Indigenous governments, in exercising their full array of inherent governing powers, are often pulled in many directions at once. White Raven Law is experienced in supporting indigenous governments in exercising their inherent authority to govern.
